The LAC, with the Headteacher, has overall responsibility for the running of the school and reporting to the Board of Directors. As a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees, the role is to contribute to the work of the Trust in ensuring high standards of achievement for all children and young people in the school.

Local Academy Council members serve a two-year term of office. The role includes:

  • attending meetings of the committee, usually outside of school hours, and contributing to committee business;
  • reading reports and papers and keeping up to date on the progress that the school is making; and
  • visiting the school from time to time during the school day or sitting on interview panels.

You will be expected to sign the committee Code of Conduct, and to have:

  • a strong commitment to the role and improving outcomes for children
  • the inquisitiveness to question and analyse;
  • the willingness to learn;
  • good inter-personal skills;
  • appropriate levels of literacy and sufficient numeracy skills to understand basic data.

Training is provided throughout the academic year.

Forward Education Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All LAC members are subject to an enhanced DBS prohibition check and identity checks prior to appointment and the commencement of their duties.

LAC members are also required to declare their personal details which are filed with GIAS in accordance with statutory requirements.

If you are interested in joining a LAC, as a Trust appointed LAC member or Parent representative* please complete this expression of interest form and submit it via the website. Trust appointed LAC members join the LAC through direct appointment. Parent representatives join the LAC through a process of election.  Self nominations will be accepted, but if you are nominating another parent, please seek their prior consent.

If there are more nominations than vacancies, the election will be by secret ballot. If a ballot is necessary, voting papers will be sent out together with details of the ballot procedure.

* Please note that parent representatives are representative parents/carers, not representatives of the parents or for their own child, and must act as such in meetings.
